Cryo'ed 5.29 Gears and Aussie Locker into Dylan's rear diff
|
| Dylan is a forum member of Northeast Toyota Crawlers, asked us to set up his diff's with cryo'ed 5.29 Yukon Gears, and an Aussie Locker. Dropped off two diffs, two treated gearsets and bearings, and locker.
Previously unmolested factory diff with pink paint on the pinion gear:
This diff was used, and ready for a rebuild. After removing the carrier, the pinion gear literally fell out of the carrier. Initial backlash was measured at .012, with zero preload on the entire assembly. Typical of a 20 or so year old diff. Markings on the Yukon gearset:
Out with the old...
In with the new...
First pattern check with .081 pinion bearing shim, 8 in/lb pinion bearing preload. Drive:
Coast .081:
Pattern was too deep. After an attempt at .075 pinion shims (still too deep) final pattern at .070:
Pattern looks great, another diff ready for the trail!
