5.29 Precision Gears and an Aussie Locker into a 4 cyl diff

Factory 4.10 front differential gets town down for a 5.29 Precision Gear install alog with an Aussie Locker. The Aussie was previously installed in a 4.10 diff, so the third had to be removed and torn down again.

New gears installed along with the Aussie Locker.

The front diff had a factory solid pinion spacer, this one only had a crush sleeve. Crush sleeves are really no good for heavy off road applications, as further compression of the sleeve can occur under severe impacts, and the result is not enough pinion bearing preload. This third got a solid spacer from Trail Gear.

First attempt with the rear gear setup. 10 lbs/in pinion preload (new bearings), .007 for gearlash with the .080 shim behind the pinion resulted in this pattern - drive side:

Pattern was a little too deep. Tore it back down and re-shimmed the pinion to .077, same specs for ppl and bl...

Pattern looks great, favoring the toe side which is 'competition style'.

Once the final pinion depth is established, just need to tear it down one more time to install the solid spacer and that's it. A 700 mile round trip to Rausch Creek and two days of hard wheeling to break in the gearset!
